A rock club for the
Walla Walla Valley.
Marcus Whitman Gem & Mineral Society
The Marcus Whitman Gem and Mineral Society, or ‘rock club,’ was founded in 1950 and is one of the oldest continuously operating gem and mineral clubs in the Pacific Northwest.
Our Mission:
Marcus Whitman Gem & Mineral Society is a non-profit club based in Walla Walla, Washington. Our mission is to educate and promote the rock hounding hobby and all things rocks, gems, minerals, and crystals.

Join The Club
Whether you are interested in collecting, learning about lapidary, or taking classes, we welcome you to join our club. We provide a variety of activities throughout the year that are designed to educate, entertain and engage the interest of members of all ages.
Monthly Meetings
Our monthly meetings include programs by club members or outside speakers that are educational and fun. The topics range from live demonstrations to learning about geology, minerals, crystal formations, and more.
Junior Programs
At our monthly meetings, the kids will gather for a fun activity. Our youth will learn to work with various materials in a fun and creative atmosphere and continue their education in the world of geology and identifying rocks, crystals and minerals.
Field Trips
Each year we take approximately 10 outings that give members the opportunity to find and collect beautiful rock and minerals from around the Pacific Northwest. We also provide some winter trips where we explore lapidary shops, museums or private displays.
Lapidary Shop
We have a spacious lapidary shop that is open to members to shape and polish their own stones. The shop is open once a week with qualified members ready to help you learn.
